Many pregnant women have questions for their doctor regarding the safety of having sex after birth, and some even find that the concerns and health issues that arise at that point are just as poignant as those they had after getting pregnant. Sex after birth is a common area of concern for women, as their bodies are physically recovering from the changes they went through after getting pregnant. Not only does the female body change physically after getting pregnant, but there are emotional changes that accompany this metamorphosis as well. Getting pregnant turns the entire world upside down of many a woman, and some say that nothing in their lives is the same following pregnancy and the birth of a child. Sex after birth is a common theme in the minds of the partners of these women, as well, as often times the birthing process is largely underestimated, and partners do not understand the extent of pain and recovery involved. Sex after birth is a topic to be approached with delicacy and empathy, as getting pregnant is not only a “one-step” process, it is a reality that truly changes almost every aspect of a woman’s identity.
